DATA ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Data Engineer to assist with the collating, storing, processing, and analysing of data sets. The role holder will select optimal solutions to use for these purposes, then implement, maintain and monitor the data sets as well as integrating the data with the architecture used across the company.
This roles requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to provide data management solutions and support the ongoing demand for new or enhanced data sets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to work across the development lifecycle from prototyping to delivering production data models to resolving data issues.

  • Lead the development of data transformation using multiple technologies (SQL, Alteryx, Datastage, BODS etc); leveraging agile methodologies.

  • Support strategic initiatives; design and data solutions conducive for business insights, reporting and analytics.

  • Select and integrate data tools and frameworks  to provide requested capabilities.

  • Implement ETL process.

  • Monitor performance and advise of any necessary infrastructure changes

  • Define data retention policies.

  • Assist in the development of team, departmental, and organisation metrics to analyse business performance and identify areas of opportunity.

  • Contribute to the design for ClarusONE data and information assets.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners and internal clients.

  • Manage  the delivery and support objectives of the ClarusONE Analytics function.

  • Leverage strong analytical capabilities, problem solving skills and with proven track record of making recommendations based on data.

  • Independently and quickly identify solutions to complex problems.

  • Present and defend complex ideas at various level within the organisation.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree level or above​

Minimum Skills/Experience

  • Experience with data query language/tools (e.g. SQL, Alteryx) and knowledge of data querying tools, such as Pig, Hive, and Impala

  • Experience with database technologies and concepts (Oracle, Teradata, SAP HANA, DB2, PostGres, SQL Server)

  • Understanding of distributed computing principles

  • Experience with the integration of data from multiple data sources

  • Experience with NoSQL

  • Knowledge of various ETL techniques and frameworks

  • Project management experience desirable

Additional Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience with optimising integration of data with a range of visualisation tools such as Tableau, Qliview, SAS, Business Objects & Power BI

  • Experience with Big Data Technologies

  • Experience with data performance optimisation

  • Life Sciences/Pharmaceutical background desirable
